WORKOUT ROUTINE
Just the thought of putting in those
long hours on the treadmill every
night for six months is enough
to make your thighs ache. Luck-
ily, we have a few subtle tricks
up our sleeves which should help
tone those muscles in time for any
big day which doesn’t involve the
dreaded gym!

Get Your Own Fitness Instructor
Okay, so we’re not all super-rich
celebs that can afford their very
own personal fitness instructor,
but there are ways around this. In
a addition to a wide selection of
work-out DVDs that are available,
there are also interactive video
game options which introduce you
to your own computerised fitness
instructor. Games like EA Sports

Active for the Nintendo Wii, will
organise a strict exercise regime
for you and keep tabs on your
progress and allowing you to
partake in a challenging but varied
exercise programme. And all in
the comfort of your own living
room!

Share the Weight
Motivation is the most difficult
aspect to a new healthy regime,
and the biggest mistake is to go it
alone when setting out on a new
healthier lifestyle. Call a friend,
or even better, a group of friends,
and coax them into joining you.
Turning a job or a swim-
ming session into a social event
will make it far easier to maintain
momentum, and at the first sign

of waning on your part, you have
your friends close at hand to cheer
you on and motivate you to go that
extra mile.

Fitness
Laugh Laugh
Yes, really. Laughing has been
scientifically proven to be good
for your mind and body. It boosts
your immune system, lowers
blood pressure and even increases
muscle flexion, and researchers
have found that laughing can burn
up to 2.31 calories per minute.
So, whenever your tough exer-
cise regime is getting you down,
stick a couple of your favourite
comedies into the DVD player to
cheer yourself up and burn those
calories from the comfort of your
own sofa.
Workout at work
You don’t have to visit the gym in
order to get your exercise fix. In
fact, you don’t even have to leave
your chair at work! There are
numerous exercises that you can
be doing while sat at your desk,
which help tone your legs, arms
and buttocks. One key exercise
that should keep those strange
looks from your co-workers to a
minimum is to tighten and squeeze
your buttocks in and hold for ten
seconds, then release.
Remember the big day
If you find yourself slowing down
and neglecting an exercise or two
during your various workouts, take
a moment to remind yourself what
it is that you’re getting in shape
for. Put together a timetable
with goals. Once you reach your
specified goals along the way,
reward yourself with various treats,
like a new pair of exercise trainers
or a new work-out kit. Then, just
keep reminding yourself of how
fabulous you will look. That should
be all the motivation you need!
Make small changes
You don’t have to drastically
change your lifestyle in order to
lose weight and tone up. Look at
your daily routines and take a look
at your diet and identify those mo-
ments of inactivity. Instead of that
mid-morning coffee and biscuit,
take a walk to the cafeteria and
buy an apple. Making adjustments
to your journey, like exiting the
bus one stop before your regular
drop-off point and walking the
rest of the way home, could make
a huge difference to your daily
routine.
